Conflict on the Kenya-Ethiopia border: 22 fishermen missing, dozens dead

A violent clash between Ethiopian and Kenyan fishermen along the Omo River has caused heavy casualties on both sides of the border.
Authorities confirmed that 22 Kenyans are missing, while 13 people have lost their lives on the Ethiopian side.
According to Kenya's Turkana County Governor, Jeremiah Lomorukai, the clash occurred on Saturday evening in the Lopeimukat and Natira areas.
The district police reported that 15 boats were stolen, while six Ethiopian fishermen were rescued and returned to their country.
On the Ethiopian side, the Chief Administrator of Dasenech County, Tadele Hatte, confirmed that 13 people had been killed and three others injured. To avoid escalating the situation, the Kenyan government has strengthened security measures along the border and is working with Ethiopian authorities to find the missing.
Kenya's Interior Minister, Kipchumba Murkomen, stated that the government will establish a border post to increase control and security in the area.
Previous conflicts in this region have included cattle raids and occasional clashes between the Turkana and Dassanech communities, who share economic activities such as livestock farming and fishing.
