Visit to the US, Macron: For an agreement with Putin, preventive capacities are needed

The two leaders, Macron and Trump, met on Monday to discuss the war in Ukraine on the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of the country. Both leaders were asked about Putin as they shared their comments.
Macron says he hasn't spoken to the Russian leader for some time, but with a new US administration in place, he hopes there is a "new context" and a "new opportunity to re-engage."
The only way to ensure that any peace agreement with the Russian president is respected, Macron adds, is to "be strong" and have "preventive capacities."
Trump repeated another claim he has made several times, that the war which began two years into Joe Biden's presidency would not have started if he were president.
On Putin specifically, he says: " I really believe he wants to make a deal, I could be wrong, but I believe he wants to make a deal. Putin can continue to lead Russia in a very positive way," Trump said.
