SpaceX rocket arrives at Space Station, will return NASA astronauts to Earth

A SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule has successfully docked with the International Space Station (ISS), paving the way for astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams to return to Earth after an extended stay of more than nine months.

The two American astronauts were supposed to spend just eight days on the ISS as part of a test mission of Boeing's Starliner spacecraft, but technical problems with the vehicle forced them to stay much longer. NASA decided not to risk a return with the Starliner, returning them in the SpaceX capsule.

NASA confirmed that their return trip will begin this week, but it all depends on weather conditions. “Butch and Suni have done a great job and we can't wait to get them home,” said Steve Stich, NASA's commercial crew program manager.
