Another harsh reaction from Pope Leo XIV: The world is being destroyed by a

Pope Leo has sharply criticized leaders who spend billions on wars and said the world is being "destroyed by a handful of tyrants," in unusually strong statements made in Cameroon on Thursday, following a new attack on him on social media from US President Donald Trump.

Pope Leo, the first American pope, also condemned leaders who use religious language to justify wars and called for a "decisive change of course" during a meeting in the largest city in Cameroon's English-speaking regions, an area where a protracted conflict has been raging for nearly a decade that has left thousands dead.

He said that the world's huge military spending is happening at the expense of ordinary people and that such conflicts are fueling global violence and instability. According to him, political and religious rhetoric is often being used to justify war, instead of promoting peace and dialogue.

His statements come at a time of high international tensions and political conflict, giving even more weight to his call for a de-escalation of the conflict and a focus on diplomatic solutions.

At the end of his speech, Pope Leo stressed that the international community must take greater responsibility to stop the escalation of conflicts and to protect civilians who are most affected by wars.
