US, Iranian officials to meet in Istanbul for nuclear deal

Senior officials from the United States and Iran are expected to hold talks on a possible nuclear deal, at a time when tensions between the two countries have risen sharply.
In parallel with the announcement of the diplomatic meeting, Iran's military chief warned that "no American would be safe" if the US launched military strikes against Iran, according to media reports published on Monday.
The Trump administration's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi are expected to meet in Istanbul on Friday to discuss a possible nuclear deal.
The meeting was later confirmed by an anonymous US official, quoted by Reuters, who said that President Donald Trump had "called on Iran to reach a deal" and that the purpose of the meeting was to hear the Iranian side's position.
