CIA warns of Russian attacks in Europe: Here are the countries at risk

US intelligence services have shared a report with various European countries, which suggests a possible Russian drone operation to the detriment of Spain, France and Italy.

The information was revealed by journalist Xavier Colas, a former Russia correspondent for the well-known Spanish newspaper "El Mundo".

The alarm originates from the visit that CIA chief John Ratcliffe made in August to Moscow and sets out a clear attack scenario: drones shot down by camouflaged merchant ships.

According to information gathered from anonymous sources in the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense and reported by "El Mundo", the device with which the attacks will be carried out is "Gerbera", a Russian drone almost two meters long and weighing 18 kilograms, capable of traveling up to 600 kilometers at a speed of around 160 kilometers per hour.

Its explosive charge, estimated at 4 to 5 kilograms, does not have the capacity to cause mass destruction, but has a symbolic and chaotic effect; such as temporarily closing an airport, causing a fire, or demonstrating that Moscow can strike Europe without having to cross any land border.

This method is not a far-fetched hypothesis. The Kremlin has tested launching drones from sea platforms before. Just last February, a Swedish naval unit detected a drone launched from a Russian intelligence ship in the Oresund Strait.

Added to this was the recent attack with a drone equipped with explosives at Leipzig airport, in Germany, which Berlin officially attributes to Russia, as well as the case of 19 drones that flew into Polish airspace a year ago.

The Kremlin's logic, according to data reviewed by the Spanish newspaper, is guided not by geographical proximity, but by the political vulnerability of southern European countries, which also have pro-Russian elements in their ranks.
