The Union of Albanian Journalists reacts to Klodiana Lala: The statement of the former head of SHISH should be clarified, it carries the value of an attack on the journalist's integrity

The Union of Albanian Journalists has reacted after the statement of the former director of the State Information Service, Vlora Hyseni, against News24 investigative journalist, Klodiana Lala.

In a statement, UGSH calls Hysen's statement, which was made in front of media cameras, disturbing, demanding that the allegations made against the journalist be clarified by the competent authorities.

"UGSH considers the statement of the former head of the State Intelligence Service, Vlora Hyseni, addressed to journalist Klodiana Lala, in the conditions of an interrogated defendant, as blackmail and a disturbing statement, which exposes the fact of the surveillance of journalists in Albania," the reaction states.

The UGSH also refers to the accusations made against Klodiana Lala for meetings with persons described as "Serbian spies", demanding that these allegations become part of a clarifying process by the investigative bodies.

According to the Union, this should be done to exclude any public abuse or blackmail against the journalist by senior or former state officials.

"Such statements carry the value of an attack on the journalist's integrity even when they come from persons under indictment and as holders of a status such as former head of the intelligence service," UGSH emphasizes.

The Union of Albanian Journalists demands that the statements made against the journalist be clarified and investigated on legal grounds and with transparency, emphasizing the need to protect the professional integrity of Klodiana Lala.

Two episodes that occurred today in the public life of our capital, Tirana, bring back to the attention of public opinion the problematic relationship between the state police and reporters in the field.
UGSH expresses indignation at the escorting of journalist Vjolanda Peca, who reports for Citizens.al, while she was reporting on the protest that took place today in front of the Albanian Parliament, where citizens were gathered. The escorting of the journalist (a case repeated in previous days), as well as her detention, constitutes a violation and infringement of the role of the reporter on duty.
UGSH addresses the Minister of Interior Ervin Demo and the Director General of Police Skënder Hita, with the request that this case be shed light and that such episodes with reporters not be repeated.

Such cases are being included in all periodic reports of international organizations and institutions that index freedom of reporting and media in the world and the region.

The second episode concerns the direct accusation made on camera by many media outlets by the accused former official against News24 journalist Klodiana Lala.

As such, this accusatory statement against the journalist, by the former official under investigation and accused of serious abuses, must be clarified and clarified transparently and completely on legal grounds, without giving room for any abuse and harm to the integrity of the colleague.
