After many months of decline, inflation returned to growth in March. This means that prices are rising at a faster pace.
"All vegetables... tomatoes, cucumbers, broccoli, pumpkin, peppers... from the old 1,000 lek per kilogram have become more expensive," Alush Bejtja, a fruit and vegetable trader, told A2 CNN.
The price crisis is not over! The beginning of spring proved it. Inflation, the indicator of currency depreciation in relation to price increases, rose to 2.1 percent in March after remaining fixed at 1.9 percent in January and February.
"Both imported and domestic ones are very expensive. The prices have remained the same as they were for the new year, even now in April. It is unclear what they are doing. One kg of cucumbers costs 3 thousand lek."
The faster price increases last month were driven mainly by food and beverages. Inflation in this product category jumped to 3 percent from 2.8 percent in February and just 2 percent in March a year ago.
"In my opinion, the slight increase in inflation last month is mostly seasonal. In addition, we are also dealing with another problem, that of traders. We have speculation in the market," economic expert Eduart Gjokutaj told A2 CNN.

"Theoretically, we should have cheaper prices for imports, but this will not happen. Food prices will remain expensive if the government does not exercise controls on the markets," Gjokutaj added.
With tourism now expanding beyond the country, prices in bars and restaurants across the country also rose in March. Inflation in this category of services reached 1.9 percent.
