EMRI/ Group of Albanians enter apartment to rob, owner shoots and kills 36-year-old

A 36-year-old man of Albanian origin was shot dead during an attempted robbery in Baldissero d'Alba, in the province of Cuneo, Italy.
According to the Italian news agency ANSA, the victim has been identified by the carabinieri as Gjovalin Lazri, a resident of Turin. Investigators say the 36-year-old is suspected of having a criminal record.
The incident occurred at night, when several people entered the yard of a house under reconstruction. According to preliminary reconstruction by investigators, there were about four or five people in the group.
The owner of the apartment, Roberto Mollo, 35, was awakened by the noise and went out onto the balcony, where he had a semi-automatic pistol, which he had legally registered. He shot at the people in the yard, hitting one of them.
Lazri was seriously injured and, although emergency teams attempted to resuscitate him, he died at the scene.
After the shooting, the other people who were with him fled the scene. The Carabinieri are looking for clues that could lead them to the vehicle in which they allegedly fled. According to preliminary investigations, no material was taken from the apartment. Mollo himself called the emergency services after the incident and informed the police that several people had entered his property.
The Asti prosecutor's office has opened an investigation for murder, while the 35-year-old is under investigation at large. Authorities are trying to determine precisely the dynamics of the event and the circumstances in which the weapon was used.
Meanwhile, the body of the 36-year-old Albanian has been sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Turin, where an autopsy is expected to be performed.
The investigations are being led by the Carabinieri of Cuneo and Bra, under the coordination of the Prosecutor's Office of Asti. The victim's alleged accomplices are still being sought.
