Experts: Balcony, a hidden danger in many homes: What you should never keep there
In many homes, the balcony is seen as an additional space for relaxation, storage, or daily use. However, experts warn that its misuse for storing various items can turn into a serious safety hazard in the home.
According to these safety tips, certain objects should never be kept on the balcony, as they can cause fire, property damage, or even life-threatening injuries.
Electrical and heating equipment
Electric grills and similar appliances are considered unsafe for use or storage on balconies, especially in residential buildings. The risk of overheating and fire spread is high, so in many cases their use in these spaces is prohibited.
Also, portable heaters pose an increased risk, as they can tip over, come into contact with moisture, or be damaged by weather conditions, causing defects or fire.
Refrigerators, washing machines, and dryers are not designed for outdoor use. Exposure to sun, rain, and humidity can quickly damage them and render them unusable.
Storing glass objects on the balcony is also not recommended. Temperature changes and weather conditions can cause cracks, and there is also a risk of injury if it breaks or falls.
Gas cylinders and flammable liquids
One of the biggest risks is related to gas cylinders and flammable substances. Exposure to sunlight and heat can increase the pressure inside them, leading to leaks or, in extreme cases, even explosions.
Experts emphasize that the balcony should remain a safe and functional space for relaxation, not a storage place for dangerous items that could jeopardize the safety of the apartment.
