Records and statistics/ From Loro Boriçi to Silvinjo, here are the most prominent figures of the national team
The history of the Albanian National Team is built on several great figures on the red and black bench, but two names stand out clearly above all others, Loro Boriçi, Xhani De Biazi and Silvinjo. One represents the historical foundation of the Albanian National Team, while the other two symbolize its most successful modern era.
LORO – The legend of Shkodra and Partizan, Loro Boriçi holds the absolute record for the longest time at the helm of Albania, with a full 4747 days on the red and black bench. He led the National Team in four different periods, constantly returning as the most trusted figure in Albanian football. His first mandate began on September 15, 1957 and lasted until June 29, 1963, a period when Albania began to gain an identity in European football. The second return, from November 24, 1965 to June 21, 1972, was also his longest period at the helm of the national team.
He then had two more brief stints in 1976 and 1981, which led to four different terms at the helm of the Rossoneri. In total, Boriçi managed 24 matches, but his importance goes far beyond statistics. He is considered the architect of the first generations of the Albanian National Team and one of the greatest figures in the history of football in the country.
At a time when Albania had very little international experience, Boriçi managed to build a competitive team and raise the reputation of Albanian football in the European arena. For many sports historians, he remains the symbol of the red and black identity and the coach who created the first culture of the national team.
THE ITALIAN – On the other hand, Gianni De Biazi is the coach with the most matches in the history of Albania, with 52 matches managed. The Italian spent 1853 days at the helm of the team and led the National Team in two different periods. The first mandate started on February 29, 2012 and ended on March 29, 2015, while the second period from June 13, 2015 to June 11, 2017. It was during this time that Albania experienced the greatest transformation in its football history.
Under De Biazi's leadership, the Rossoneri secured historic qualification for UEFA Euro 2016, the first major tournament the Albanian national team has ever participated in. He built a team with tactical discipline, defensive organization and a winning mentality, achieving historic results against important European teams.
Victories over Portugal, Armenia and a dignified performance at France 2016 made De Biazi one of the most beloved figures among Albanian fans. Under his leadership, Albania gained respect in Europe and changed its status in international football.
RELI AND BRIGEL – After the historic duo Boriçi-De Biazi, the list of longest-serving coaches also includes important names such as Shyqyri Rreli, who stayed for 1447 days in two terms and managed 23 matches, as well as Edoardo Reja with 1260 days and 38 matches.
German Hans-Peter Brigel also left his mark with 1,134 days in charge and 31 matches managed, helping to raise the national team's competitive level in the early 2000s.
BEST FIGURES – Another name that quickly rose to this list was Silvinjo. The Brazilian has managed 34 matches until March 2026 and has spent 1100 days in charge of Albania, becoming one of the most consistent coaches of the last decade.
Under his leadership, the National Team has shown significant growth in play and results, continuing the tradition of coaches who have left their mark on the history of the red and black team. With him, we qualified directly for the second European Championship and went to the World Cup play-offs. The figures prove the Brazilian right, who is the most successful in terms of results./ OLSI AVDIAJ – PANORAMASPORT.AL
