"He dried our arm." These are the first words after a phone call made by Lazër Bashi, the citizen who was injured in the incident where Prelë and Lekë Gjoni, father and son, were shot to death with a firearm.
The wounded man managed to escape miraculously, while his movement after being shot is like a movie script. The gunman was in the back of the four-wheeler. Even though he was in the middle of a hail of bullets from two different weapons, he managed to escape. After lying down, the wounded man received a bullet in the shoulder.
He waited a few minutes until the perpetrators left and then, from the fouristrada turned to one side due to loss of control, he managed to get out. Bashi made sure to have his cell phone with him. The injured man, because there is no phone signal at the place where the murder took place, walked for at least 40 minutes with the bullet in his shoulder, covering a distance of approximately 2 km on foot. As soon as he arrived at a bar after the intersection where Pultit Street connects with Shoshi Street, Lazër Bashi called a relative and his first words were: “You broke our arm.” Then the injured man confessed how he was on the fouristrada with Prelë and Lekë Gjonin by chance and that the latter two had died on the spot. Bashi cleaned the blood that was draining from him at a tap near the bar and then waited for his transportation to the Shkodra regional hospital. Throughout this movement, the injured man lost a significant amount of blood, causing him to be transported to the Trauma Hospital in Tirana for more specialized treatment, from where he is out of danger to his life.
The Shkodra police have not yet identified the perpetrators of this serious incident with two victims and one injured. The main leads of the investigation are Lekë Gjoni's divorce 3 months ago and a conflict several years ago. The officers have accompanied several people to the police station but so far there is nothing concrete regarding the identification of the possible perpetrators. Prelë and Lekë Gjoni were shot by two people with a Kalashnikov assault rifle and an MP5, emptying over 50 bullets, while the father and son lost their lives on the spot. They were returning from the old house in Dukagjin where they kept some bees towards Shkodra until they were ambushed on Xhanit Street.
The police and the prosecution of Shkodra continue their investigations to fully unravel the double murder and injury of Lazër Bashi. Lekë Gjoni, who is the main target in this serious incident, was working with a truck loading construction materials and an excavator in the Dukagjini area. He was not known as a problematic person while working and moving freely every day. The family members have stated that they are not aware of any conflict. The difficult mountainous terrain and the fact that the area is not monitored by security cameras make it difficult for the police to unravel this double murder.
