Elderly arsonist arrested in Kruja after setting fire that burned dozens of hectares

Kruja police have arrested a 67-year-old man in flagrante delicto who is accused of being the perpetrator of the deliberate arson that occurred in the village of Halil and in the places called "Kodra e Stafukeve" and "Kodra e Babasve".

Police say the elderly man started a fire on land he owned to burn plant waste.

The flames have gotten out of control and spread, burning significant areas of land and fruit trees in the village of Zalla and surrounding areas.

The police have also appealed to citizens, farmers, and owners or possessors of pastures not to light fires under any circumstances.

Kruja/The perpetrator of an arson case in the village of Zalla is arrested in flagrante delicto.

As a result of the spread of the flames, there was extensive material damage in the village of Halil and in the places called "Stafukeve Hill" and "Fathers' Hill".

As a result of rapid operational actions carried out by the services of the Krujë Police Commissariat, immediately after the notification of a fire in the village of Zallë, the arrest in flagrante delicto of the suspected perpetrator of the incident, citizen IH(K.), 67 years old, was made possible.

This citizen is suspected of having set fire to the surface of the land he owns, to burn plant waste.

The fire has gotten out of control and as a result of its spread, significant areas of land and fruit trees have been burned in the village of Zalla and surrounding areas.

The procedural materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office for further action.

The State Police repeatedly appeals to all citizens, farmers and owners or possessors of pastures, not to light fires under any circumstances. Also, the wrong and criminally punishable practice of burning waste on agricultural lands or pastures poses a risk of uncontrolled spread of flames, as well as damage to property, health and life.

The State Police invites citizens to immediately report any citizen who attempts to start a fire, guaranteeing them safe anonymity, immediate response and compliance with the law.
