After a marathon 7-hour session, the Special Court of Appeals has postponed the decision for Mayor Erion Veliaj until Wednesday at 12:30. This is after SPAK prosecutors brought more evidence and defense lawyers asked for time to familiarize themselves with it.
Veliaj participated in the long session with his lawyers, and was then returned to Durres detention center where he has been held for 1 month.
This is the moment when Veliaj leaves the GJKKO to return to prison. As can be seen from the photo, Veliaj is being waited for by the police van and officers to return behind bars until the next day when the next hearing is expected to take place.
Veliaj's lawyers, Ermir Beta and Artur Selmani, during the hearing, according to the media, requested a more lenient security measure compared to the property guarantee, arguing that there is no risk of it destroying evidence.
Mayor Erion Veliaj has been in custody since February 10 and is suspected of committing the criminal offense of "Passive corruption of high-ranking state officials or local elected officials", committed in collaboration (9 times) and "Laundering of the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity".
