The leader of the Euro-Atlantic Democrats, Lulzim Basha, in an interview with Euronews Albania, emphasized strong support from the US for justice reform and the fight against corruption.

Basha also brought to the studio the message of a senior US official, who stated that the temporary silence of the US administration due to the transition procedures should not be confused with a change in positions.

He also said that it is a mistake to think that the US will disengage from its investments in Albania and the Balkans, calling this a "debilism." According to him, US national security interests remain unchanged for the region.

Excerpt from the interview:

Lulzim Basha: Now I want to say something with full responsibility, I am not a spokesperson for the American government, I am not a spokesperson for President Donald Trump, I am not a spokesperson for Secretary Rubio, but I say this with maximum responsibility. I quote, "those who confuse the temporary silence due to the transition procedures around the world with our positions are gravely mistaken. Our positions in support of the Justice Reform, the fight against corruption, are principled commitments that do not change."

Question: Whose quote is this?

Lulzim Basha: I can't tell you that.

Question: Official?

Lulzim Basha: Of the highest levels imaginable.

Question: So America is here, it hasn't left, you say?

Lulzim Basha: Look, it's the least and I want to say this in a language that every Albanian can understand. It's the least stupidity to declare that, especially at this time, the US will disengage from its major investments in the framework of its security interests. Albania, the Western Balkans, Europe as a whole are essential interests of US national security.
