"I heard them take their last breaths," survivor recounts killings of doctors in Gaza

A survivor of an attack on rescue teams in Gaza has testified that Israeli troops opened fire on ambulances and used a bulldozer to bury the rubble.
Munther Abed, a Red Cross volunteer, said he was attacked while in an ambulance on his way to help after an airstrike in Rafah on March 23. His two colleagues were killed on the spot, while he survived by hiding inside the vehicle. According to him, Israeli forces dragged him, beat him and held him captive.
The attack killed a total of 15 rescue workers, including Red Crescent members, firefighters and a UN worker. Their bodies were later found buried in a sand pit.
Under international pressure, the Israeli military (IDF) has opened an investigation but has denied any wrongdoing, claiming the vehicles were moving suspiciously. Abed has disputed this claim, saying the ambulances had visible emergency lights and symbols.
“From the moment the shooting started, I immediately took cover on the floor of the ambulance. I heard nothing from my colleagues except the sounds of the last moments, listening to them take their last breaths. Suddenly, everything became quiet, the ambulance stopped and the lights went out. The driver’s door opened and I heard voices speaking in Hebrew. Fear and panic seized me and I started reciting some quotes from the Quran,” he said.
