Just one point behind Real, Atletico triumphs in dramatic match against last place

Atletico Madrid secured a crucial 4-2 victory over bottom-placed Real Valladolid in a dramatic clash at the Metropolitano, recording their eighth consecutive home win over their La Liga rivals.
Diego Simeone's side started brightly and Pablo Barrios went close to scoring but goalkeeper André Ferreira made a good save. However, it was Valladolid who surprised everyone when they were awarded a penalty after Lenglet's handball in the area. Mamadou Sylla calmly slotted home to give the visitors the lead.
But the advantage was short-lived, as just four minutes later, Atlético won another penalty, this time after a foul by Javi Sánchez on Giuliano Simeone. Julián Alvarez equalized with great luck, while just two minutes later, Simeone scored a beautiful left-footed goal to turn things around for the home side.
Sánchez was redeemed early in the second half when he equalised with a deflected free kick. But Atlético responded immediately and won their third penalty of the match after Henrique fouled Llorente. Alvarez scored again, this time into the bottom corner.
In the end, it was Alexander Sørloth who sealed the 4-2 result. With this victory, Atletico closes the gap on Barcelona and Real Madrid in the title race, while Valladolid remains at the bottom of the table with another away defeat.
