Nanuka Canal in Vlora is "invaded" by garbage, residents on alert: Our health is being endangered!

Citizens in Vlora are faced with a problem that directly affects the health of thousands of residents of the area.
The Nanuka Canal, which is one of the most important segments of the sewage system in the city of Vlora and which transports white water towards the hydropower plant, has been "invaded" by garbage.
The sewage merges with the white water, thus creating hotbeds of infection for the residents of the '1 Maji' and '24 Maji' neighborhoods.
Residents tell the media that there have been numerous complaints to the municipality, but there has been no intervention and no rehabilitation plan.
"Sewerage is the main problem. We went to the mayor of a neighborhood representative, he told us: 'I have 11 projects from Japan, I will include your project as well. The plan leaves this canal to be covered.' There are thousands of families. I have been here since '91 and nothing, nice talk and nothing. It is a great sin to let sewage flow here. When we die, they will do it," says a resident.
Another resident of the area said that all trash bins are thrown into the canal.
"The canal is the stinkiest of all. In the morning when we get up, there is an unbearable smell. They passed by, let alone cleaned it, and they didn't clean it properly. People throw their trash cans into the canal when they pass by, and we are guilty of throwing them in the squares. The region has police, they should go out and check that people don't throw them into the canal anymore. From the bridge, jump into the canal," he said.
The Naunka Canal, which has been in a deplorable state for years, has turned into a large garbage dump, also because hundreds of tons of urban waste are deposited there every day by residents of the area.
The numerous insects and sewage that are deposited there have turned this canal into a source of infection, putting the health of the residents at risk.
