Hotel owner in Vaqarr arrested for sheltering 7 Sudanese migrants on their way to the EU

A 66-year-old man has been arrested in flagrante delicto by the Police in Tirana, after allegedly hosting foreign citizens in his hotel and providing them with transportation to illegally cross the border to European Union countries.

Petrit Spaho, owner of a hotel in the Vaqarr area, has been arrested.

He is accused of the criminal offenses of "Aid for illegal border crossing", "Actions that hinder the discovery of the truth" and "Unlicensed production and possession of hunting and sporting weapons".

According to investigative actions, it is suspected that Spaho had sheltered several foreign citizens in the hotel, provided them with means of transportation and sent them towards Koplik, with the aim of illegally crossing the border and continuing their journey towards EU countries.

The Tirana Border Police Services pursued two taxi vehicles and, in cooperation with the Shkodra Border Police, managed to stop them. The two vehicles were carrying 7 citizens from Sudan.

The immigrants were prosecuted at large for the criminal offense of "Illegal crossing of the state border".

Meanwhile, the materials have also been referred to the Prosecutor's Office for the taxi driver with the initials P. Gj., against whom proceedings have been initiated while at large for the criminal offense of "Aid for illegal border crossing".

During the operation, the Police seized as material evidence two shotguns, one of which was suspected to be held without a permit, shotgun cartridges, 7 mobile phones, two taxi vehicles and the hotel's guest registration book.
