Trump administration cancels more funding for rescue programs, affecting

Donald Trump's administration yesterday evening canceled more US Agency for International Development funding for rescue programs.

A humanitarian official familiar with the matter said it affected programs in Syria, Gaza, Lebanon and Yemen. The funding supported emergency aid for civilians affected by the war.

The State Department and USAID had previously approved continued funding, but in announcements last night, USAID told the organizations that their awards were ending.

The reports said the decision was made in response to directives from Jeremy Lewin, an official who worked with the Department of Government Efficiency and now heads USAID, which the Trump administration has moved to dismantle.

A review determined that the awards were not in line with the administration's priorities. The humanitarian official called the funding termination "utterly cruel and shortsighted."

" They have targeted places where we should be making more friends, not more enemies. These actions simply make people in the region hate us more ," he said.
