Attack on US-British base in Indian Ocean, Tehran denies responsibility

Iran is not responsible for and is not involved in the missile attacks against the Anglo-American military base on Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.
This was stated by a senior Iranian official to the media. The denial came after The Wall Street Journal reported that two medium-range ballistic missiles were launched towards the base, but failed to hit it.
Diego Garcia is one of two bases that the United Kingdom has authorized the United States to use as part of its campaign against Iran.
The reported incident attracted attention because Diego Garcia is located 4,000 kilometers from Iran, double the 2,000-kilometer limit that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi claimed Tehran has deliberately set for its missiles.
The island, the largest of the Chagos archipelago in the Indian Ocean, has hosted a joint US-British military presence since the 1970s and serves as a base for long-range bombers and other strategic assets.
