The government's plan, 1000 euro bonus as a stimulus for the long-term

The German government plans to offer a one-time bonus of 1,000 euros to the long-term unemployed who stay in a regular job for at least 1 year. The plans are opposed by the opposition and coalition politicians.

Germany ranks among the countries with low unemployment in Europe. In June of this year, the German government announced that there are 2.73 million people registered as unemployed in the country. However, the unemployment figures fluctuate based on the season, as does the unemployment phase for the affected persons. The rule that applies is known: Qualified people return to the labor market faster than unqualified ones. Anyone who remains unemployed for more than 1 year is considered long-term unemployed in Germany. Integration into the labor market of the long-term unemployed is difficult. For this reason, the German government has created instruments for the integration of the long-term unemployed, such as the two-year cost subsidy for employers who hire long-term unemployed who have been unemployed for at least two years.

Last week, the government cabinet decided on a relevant change in the law to modernize unemployment insurance and promote employment on Wednesday, the Federal Ministry of Economy announced. Among the new changes, the government's plans for the so-called "incentive financing", a bonus of 1000 euros for the long-term unemployed in Germany who get a job with social contributions for 1 year, are also announced. The purpose of the bonus is to "strengthen employment in regular and long-term work relationships", the Ministry of Economy in Berlin stated, according to the German news agency, DPA. "The long-term unemployed should be able to skip and leave basic state support." This is intended to prevent a rapid return to social social systems. The goal is in the long-term plan for the federal budget to have "relevant cost savings", it is said.

The opposition opposes : Mockery for those who work

But these plans were immediately opposed by the opposition. "The 1000 euro bonus is an open mockery for those who have been doing their job for years. The coalition government endangers social peace and adds even more fuel to the fire", said the General Secretary of the CSU, Martin Huber, to the German newspaper "Bild" on Saturday (05.10.) , Frank Bsirske rejected this plan. "I do not see such a reward as very necessary. Most of the people who receive 'Bürgergeld' accept a job, if they have the chance for it", said Bsirske to the newspaper "Bild". And Frank Schäffler, liberal politician of the FDP party, part of the coalition, said that "this plan is a scandal. Spending is exploding. The bonus must be stopped in the Bundestag.”

The government cabinet decided last week, among other things, to tighten the regulations for people who receive the "Bürgergeld" social contribution. In case of refusal of work, they soon have to count with greater penalties. Part of these new regulations is also a so-called "incentive financing" for the long-term unemployed./ DW
