US President Donald Trump has spoken out in support of ending the deal between Nexstar and Tegna, arguing that it will strengthen competition against what he describes as his "enemy", the major national American television networks, which he has called "fake news".
In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump stated that the implementation of such agreements would help “neutralize fake news,” as, according to him, it would increase competition “to a higher level.” He added that opponents of the agreement do not yet understand its benefits, but that “in the future they will understand.”

Trump's statement comes at a time when the Nexstar-Tegna deal is at the center of public debate and regulatory scrutiny, with critics expressing concerns about the concentration of power in the media market.
