Mentioned over 700 times in US Epstein case files, France investigates former

French authorities have opened a preliminary investigation into former Culture Minister Jack Lang over his links to Jeffrey Epstein.

The investigation is related to suspicions of "laundering proceeds from tax fraud."

Lang, 86, currently president of the Arab World Institute in Paris, denies any wrongdoing and has called the allegations "baseless." He told AFP the investigation will shed light on the issues that are calling his honor into question.

His daughter, Caroline Lang, 64, is also under investigation and last week resigned as head of the French Syndicate of Film Producers.

Files released by the U.S. Justice Department on Epstein mention Lang about 700 times, indicating possible financial ties or favorable favors, such as use of Epstein's private car and jet. However, neither Lang nor Caroline are suspected of sex crimes.

Lang said she met Epstein about 15 years ago through actor Woody Allen and found him “passionate about art and culture.” Caroline Lang said she had been “extremely naive” in her relationship with Epstein and that she had not personally benefited financially from the relationship.

The investigation continues as French authorities seek to clarify all financial and administrative links to the Lang family's alleged involvement with Epstein.
