How the Greek colonel who spied for China and leaked NATO secrets was brought down

The Greek military was rocked a few days ago by a scandal, where an Air Force colonel was arrested for espionage, after it was proven that he sold sensitive NATO data to China.
The charge he faces could result in life in prison. The Greek officer had extensive experience in secret electronic systems and was also a regular NATO evaluator, thus providing the Chinese with even more sensitive Alliance data.
However, his action came to an end when the first information from the CIA arrived. The senior officer was interrogated by two EYP leaders, where he fell into a series of contradictions and finally "broke down".
According to reports in October, the CIA sent a signal to the Hellenic Security Service that a military officer in Greece was suspected of leaking classified NATO information to China.
The EYP immediately notified the 5th Branch of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff, i.e. counterintelligence. From that moment on, an investigation began that resembles a movie script.
Finally, they reached the suspect from the evidence. According to the authorities, only the Colonel in question could have had access to this information, due to his position as commander of a radar and electronic systems unit. Thus, the investigators gained a face and automatically a reference point: Gaforren.
During the investigation, it was discovered that the Colonel was using two mobile phones. One was secret and, according to information, had been given to him by the Chinese. The officers managed to detect the coded signal that was being sent to China.
Experts said the most likely scenario is that he photographed confidential documents and, through special software, converted them into QR codes so that they could be sent without immediate detection. However, in the age of technology, nothing remains hidden.
