Vodafone Albania Foundation supports the development of digital skills of young people in the north

The Vodafone Foundation in Albania has been a leading partner in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) education for more than ten years, investing in the education of young people and disadvantaged groups, transforming their lives towards increasing digital capacities for the future. For about three years, this foundation has achieved extraordinary achievements and results in STEM education, part of the Generation Next program. The foundation's goal is to promote ideas and initiatives that use technology and build digital skills.
The next project of the Vodafone Albania Foundation in collaboration with the British Embassy in Tirana, “Support for the development of digital skills of young people in Northern Albania”, aims to give young people more reasons to live and invest in their country, avoiding emigration as an alternative. As the implementer of this project, the Vodafone Foundation in Albania enabled investment in digital infrastructure for education and the development of training tailored to the needs of young people.
New ICT laboratories were set up in 7 schools in the Dibra Region, 16 teachers were trained on STEM methodology, who trained and worked with 128 school children on the same methodology, ensuring the creation of projects that responded to social issues through technological solutions. This contribution by the Vodafone Foundation also aims to raise awareness of the new opportunities offered to young people in these areas.
STEM is a unique extracurricular educational program that helps teachers and students develop digital competencies. Through the above practical approach, students can learn about STEM topics, follow activities, and create their own projects, which aim to address and solve problems in the community.
"For a year now, the Vodafone Albania Foundation and the British Embassy have been implementing a joint project for young people in northern Albania. We have built technology laboratories with the highest European standards in seven schools in Mat, Bulqizë, Klos, Peshkopi, for all young people in the area, from 12 to 18 years old, in order to equip them with knowledge in digital education, investing in their future and the community where they live. The Vodafone Foundation aims to create equal opportunities for all children and students to have access to digital education", said Jonida Lakuriqi, Director of Legal Affairs, Public Policy and External Affairs at Vodafone Albania and Chair of the Vodafone Foundation in Albania.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Ambassador of the United Kingdom to our country, Mia Marzouk, added: "We are very happy to be here to help with digital training and equipping with ICT laboratories, which benefit young people in several areas of northern Albania. The young people here are talented and have many innovative ideas, so we hope that the equipment and digital education will help them build the future in their country."
The Vodafone Albania Foundation, through programs and projects such as Generation Next or “Support for the development of digital skills of young people in Northern Albania”, has been the most important and reliable partner of the Albanian government in the last ten years in the development of digital skills of young people, training teachers in more than 150 schools and adapting curricula with a technology focus. What makes Vodafone a strategic partner in the digitalization of Albania is the fact that it has behind it an international brand like Vodafone Group, which brings all the expertise, experience and power of a world leader in technology and communications, a great advantage for a small and developing country like Albania.
During this journey, the Vodafone Albania Foundation has also been able to build strategic partnerships, such as the most recent one with the British Embassy in Tirana, as together we can turn Albania into a regional leader in digitalization and innovation.
