French newspaper 'LE FIGARO': Albanians demand Rama's resignation, clashes break out in Tirana

On Tuesday evening, clashes broke out between Albanian police and protesters protesting in Tirana against a tourism project linked to the Trump family and who tried to block MPs in parliament.
Gathered in front of several entrances to the Parliament, several hundred protesters tried to break through the cordons set up by riot police as the deputies were leaving, an AFP journalist noted.
In a tense standoff, several protesters were detained by security forces, according to AFP journalists at the scene. Some of them threw eggs, tomatoes and bottles at the cars of deputies who were passing through a corridor secured by police. The police have not announced the number of people detained, but protesters who headed to a police station to demand the “release of citizens” claim that their number could be around twenty.
This is the 101st day of protests taking place every day in the Albanian capital, to protest against a giant tourist project on the coast, linked to the family of US President Donald Trump, and to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
The opposition began in late May, following the start of preparatory work in a protected natural area in the Zvërnec region (southwest). The protest movement has become a focal point for concerns over alleged corruption and a lack of government transparency.
The protesters, who carried Albanian flags and cardboard flamingos, a bird that has become a symbol of their movement, again demanded on Tuesday evening the annulment of the law on protected areas, which they claim was passed in favor of the investor.
