18 years since the adoption of the declaration on the determination of the status of Kosovo

The Kosovo Assembly on April 5, 2007, adopted a declaration on the determination of Kosovo's status, based on the proposal of chief negotiator Martti Ahtisaari.
On February 2, 2007, Ahtisaari submitted the proposal to Pristina and Belgrade, which stated that Kosovo would be a multi-ethnic society, governing itself democratically and with full respect for the rule of law, the highest level of human rights and fundamental freedoms recognized by the international community, and promoting the peaceful and prosperous existence of all its inhabitants.
Meanwhile, on June 10, 2007, US President George W. Bush visits Tirana, where he says that Kosovo will gain independence.
After several negotiations, Kosovo was declared an independent state on February 17, 2008. Kosovo has so far been recognized by a total of 118 countries around the world – the last being Kenya on March 26, 2025.
