The Constitutional Court rejects the DP's request on the election of the People's Advocate

The Constitutional Court has rejected the request of Democratic Party deputies who oppose the election of Endri Shabani to the position of Ombudsman.

 The DP claimed that the parliamentary procedure for electing the Ombudsman was in violation of the Constitution, while also raising the issue of Shabani's eligibility and incompatibilities with exercising this function.

The political and institutional clash began late last year, after Democratic MPs withdrew support for the candidates for Ombudsman, including Endri Shabani. According to the DP, the withdrawal of signatures should have been taken into consideration before the candidacy was put to a vote in the Assembly.

 Despite opposition objections, Shabani was elected by the Assembly on December 11, 2025 with 85 votes in favor, while the opposition did not participate in the vote.
