The Socialist Party has begun discussions on the 2027 local elections at a two-day meeting called by Prime Minister Edi Rama at the government residence in Drilon, Pogradec. The meeting, attended by political leaders of the regions, heads of parliamentary committees and members of the government, focused on the political priorities of the new season and the organization of the party on the ground.

It is learned that at the center of the discussions were the two documents "Besa" and "Loyal Presence", which relate to the way in which MPs, ministers and political leaders should communicate with citizens and strengthen the presence of the Socialist Party in the community.

According to sources, the Prime Minister spoke about the 2027 local elections, demanding that future candidates be figures of integrity and closely connected to the community. Part of the discussions was also dedicated to the territorial reform and the process of merging 15 municipalities. Rama requested that political leaders be the ones to explain the proposed changes to citizens, not leaving the debate only to the media.

"From the internal sources we have and the discussions made there, the entire topic was the Besa document in the way it was understood by the deputies, but also by the ministers and the way they will have to explain it many times and better to the electorate and their electoral areas, but also to the Albanians. Also, a focus in this meeting was placed on the part of the territorial reform for the merger of 15 municipalities, where Rama has also been somewhat harsh with the political leaders of the regions. While some of them are certainly ministers, demanding that they should be the ones who should best explain this territorial reform to their respective communities and not that it be done through televisions that in most cases are not understood enough by the citizens. Also, the part of local elections was slightly touched upon, and of course we will have to have names that are very clean and very close to the community. At least this was an advice from Prime Minister Rama regarding this part."

The meeting is expected to continue on Monday, when ministers and heads of institutions will report on the realization of the government's objectives and priorities for the coming months.
