Spectacular robbery in Saint-Tropez, four armed men terrorize the family of the Brazilian billionaire

A wealthy Brazilian family was terrorized in a luxury villa in Saint-Tropez after four armed men forced their way into the residence in the early hours of the morning and threatened the occupants with cash, jewelry and valuables. The Brazilian businessman, who is worth an estimated $1.4 billion, had rented the villa for two weeks with his wife and two sons. The residence, which overlooks the Mediterranean Sea and the Bay of Saint-Tropez, is believed to have been targeted by the robbers in advance.
The incident occurred at around 3:30 a.m. on July 16, shortly after the businessman's two sons had returned from an evening in Saint-Tropez, along with their partners.
The four robbers, from Marseille, arrived at the villa in a stolen vehicle. They were armed with a semi-automatic pistol and were carrying a hammer, cable ties, duct tape, pepper spray and signal jamming equipment. They first attacked the security guard, who they threatened with a gun and forced to lock the dog in the vehicle. They then led him to the villa and neutralized him using pepper spray. Inside the residence, the robbers entered the family’s rooms and threatened them with guns. One of the boys was with his Australian partner, to whom one of the perpetrators pointed a gun at her head and demanded in English to hand over the money.
In the bedroom, the billionaire and his wife were also confronted by robbers, who demanded to know where the expensive jewelry and watches were kept. The residents were tied up and gathered in one of the rooms of the villa, while the perpetrators began to search the residence. In the chaos that ensued, a young woman who had been awakened by the noise managed to escape the robbers. She took the phone and hid in the villa's garden, from where she called the authorities shortly before 05:00. The police arrived within minutes. Three of the suspects were arrested while trying to flee, while the fourth initially hid on the roof of the residence.
He was later found and arrested. He is a 29-year-old man who reportedly injured a police officer during the arrest.
The investigation also uncovered evidence suggesting that the robbery was organised and pre-planned. Authorities suspect that the villa was not chosen at random. The four suspects have been formally investigated for offences including armed robbery and unlawful detention and are being held in custody. One of the suspects claimed during questioning that he and another had been recruited in Marseille by two older men who had promised them financial benefits. He also claimed that they had then been forced to take part in the robbery.
