"Territorial reform promotes depopulation"/ MP speaks: DP will take it to the Constitutional Court! We will not forgive the municipalities to the SP

Democratic Party MP Gjin Gjoni, invited to the "Minuta e Parë" show on News24, has strongly condemned the way the majority passed the territorial reform bill, describing it as an act of arrogance by the majority.

According to Gjoni, the parliamentary majority simply used the cardboard machine to pass a reform that further deepens the social crisis in the country.

"The SP has simply exercised the power of the cards it stole in the elections and therefore has this arrogance and lack of accountability towards the citizens. Citizens today are irritated and disappointed. In the ranks of the SP there were deputies who voted in favor of the reform even though they had pledged to the citizens of the areas they come from that they would not do it," declared the Democrat deputy.

Gjin Gjoni underlined that the consequences of this new administrative division will be costly for peripheral and rural areas, accelerating the abandonment of the country.

"This territorial reform itself is driving depopulation, both emigration and migration within the country towards more populated areas. This is not effective. This has happened from 2014 to 2026 and will continue to happen in the next decade, because it is a denigrating and depopulating policy," he stressed.

Asked about the opposition's next steps, Gjoni confirmed that the Democratic Party will use all legal and political means to strike down this law, as soon as it is decreed and published in the Official Gazette.

"The DP has declared that it will continue the parliamentary war, but also the other elements. Starting from the day the law is issued and published in the Official Gazette, we will take all steps to take the law to the Constitutional Court to address those disputed constitutional points. But on the other hand, we cannot leave the battlefield empty, leaving these to hand over the municipalities to the Socialist Party," concluded Gjin Gjoni.
