Milk price monopoly/ Southern farmers protest: State should increase subsidies

Livestock farmers from Gjirokastra and Saranda have taken to the streets this Saturday in a protest at the Kardhiqi bridge, where they are demanding support from the state.
They express concern about the significant decrease in the price of milk collection from dairies, which has brought about great financial difficulties and jeopardized the survival of this vital sector.
According to the protesters, dairies have significantly reduced the price of milk collection from 170 lek/liter to 130-140 lek/liter, driving farmers towards bankruptcy.
Livestock farmers are requesting an urgent meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and have put forward a series of demands, including setting a ceiling price for milk, doubling subsidies, transparency in the allocation of pastures, and the construction of water works that will serve the development of livestock farming.
One of the protesters stated: "Our concern is that we work day and night and have left the animals inside, but prices are decreasing by the hour. We have been giving milk for two months and we have not received the money we are owed. They have reduced our prices by 30 lek since last year. There are only a few beneficiaries and thousands of livestock farmers are suffering. We are asking for support and justice, because we cannot continue like this anymore."
Protesters have expressed a sense of frustration and despair, demanding that the state take concrete measures to protect their interests and ensure the sustainable development of livestock farming.
We recall that southern farmers also took to the streets last year in several protests, following the monopoly imposed by milk collectors, all simultaneously lowering the price.
