Tirana Municipality controls funeral agencies, measures on advertising and exposure in residential areas

The Municipality of Tirana has launched on-site inspections of funeral agencies, following repeated complaints from citizens about the manner in which they advertise and display elements related to this activity in residential areas.

For nearly a year, the Consumer Protection Agency has been receiving complaints from residents living near these entities. Advertisements on facades, objects displayed outdoors, as well as vehicles parked near the agencies, have created concern in the daily lives of the community.

After the end of the six-month deadline given to entities to adapt their activities to the Municipality's requirements, inspectors from the Consumer Protection Agency and the Municipal Police conducted joint inspections in several areas of the capital.

The action began in Administrative Unit No. 5, one of the most populated areas of Tirana and where, according to the Municipality, continuous complaints from citizens have been registered.

"An initiative has been taken, in implementation of decision no. 44, for entities that exercise this type of activity, so that the elements related to it are not exposed on facades and in visible places. Taking as a trigger also the complaints of citizens, the groups of the Municipality and the relevant directorates have started today the controls in Unit no. 5, as one of the most populated units. These controls will continue in the other units. We call on businesses to cooperate and respect the rules, in order to avoid concerns for the residents," said Besmir Nela, director of the Consumer Protection Agency at the Municipality of Tirana.

The Municipal Police was also in support of the field controls, which will assist the Municipality structures during the continuation of the action.

Controls will continue in all administrative units of the capital, with the aim of disciplining the advertising and display of funeral agency activities, especially in residential areas.
