Secret meeting in Buenos Aires, Uruguayan media: DEA warns of the advancement of the Albanian mafia in the region

Representatives of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) met in early August with regional police authorities in Buenos Aires regarding the expansion of the Albanian mafia on the continent.

According to Uruguayan media , authorities have identified the entry of Albanian citizens into the country in recent months, while most of them are suspected of having traveled for tourist reasons.

However, Uruguayan authorities have emphasized that these movements are being monitored due to the Albanian citizenship being considered at risk, as it is suspected that they may be linked to a criminal group in Uruguay.

The meeting in Buenos Aires, according to reports, is related to efforts by regional authorities to identify and monitor the potential activities of international criminal organizations.

"In early August, representatives of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) met with regional police authorities in Buenos Aires. Among the topics discussed was the concern about the expansion of the Albanian mafia on the continent. In recent months, there have been reports of Albanian citizens entering the country, but most, according to police sources, have been for tourist reasons and some of them have been accommodated in hotels near Carrasco Airport, due to the cancellation of their flights. In the same way, these movements are being monitored because they are a nationality considered at risk, but the police emphasize that up to this moment, no activity of this criminal group has been detected in Uruguay ," the article states.
