G7 warns Russia of sanctions if it does not agree to ceasefire in Syria

Diplomats at the G7 summit in Canada have agreed on a final statement to warn Russia to follow Ukraine in accepting Washington's proposal for a 20-day ceasefire or face further sanctions.
In the statement, they " reaffirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine in defending its territorial integrity and right to exist, and its freedom, sovereignty and independence ."
"The G7 members called on Russia to respond by agreeing to a ceasefire on equal terms and implementing it fully.
"They stressed that any ceasefire must be respected and underlined the need for strong and credible security arrangements to ensure that Ukraine can deter and defend itself against any renewed acts of aggression ," the statement said.
