Two girls, 23 years old and 20 years old, lost their lives today in Kosovo after injuries sustained in a serious traffic accident that occurred around 10:00.
The accident occurred on a road in the Gjilan region and involved a truck and another vehicle, with the truck driver being detained by police, while a passenger in the vehicle involved was taken to hospital for medical treatment.
The two girls who passed away are Arbnora Basha and Antiana Thaqi, who were students at the "Kadri Zeka" University in Gjilan.
The police spokesman for the Gjilan region, Ismet Hashani, confirmed the incident and said that investigations are ongoing. According to him, the investigations conducted by the Regional Road Traffic Unit, the examination of the scene, the analysis of security cameras and the collection of other evidence have led to the suspicion that the accident was not a self-inflicted accident, but a traffic accident caused by the inappropriate maneuvers of the truck driver.
"The truck driver, a Kosovar male born in 1970, is suspected of making an unsafe U-turn, obstructing an overtaking vehicle. As a result, the driver of the vehicle lost control of the vehicle due to not adjusting the speed to the road conditions and attempted to avoid hitting the truck, rolling off the road," said Hashani.
Police and other relevant authorities are continuing their investigations to fully uncover the accident, while condolences for the loss of the young lives have been expressed by the community and family members.
