North Sea ship collision: Russian captain charged with murder and gross

The Russian captain of the Solong ship involved in the North Sea collision has been charged with manslaughter by gross negligence.

Vladimir Motin, 59, from Primorsky, St Petersburg, Russia, has been remanded in custody and will appear at Hull Magistrates' Court tomorrow, Humberside Police announced.

On Monday morning, about 13 miles off the East Yorkshire coast, the Solong collided with the US-registered tanker Stena Immaculate, which was carrying fuel for the US Navy.

One person is still missing and presumed dead.

After the collision, dozens of people were forced to abandon the ships after they caught fire.

The Coast Guard rescued 36 people after the alarm was raised at 9:48 a.m. on Monday, with ambulances lined up at a nearby port as emergency services prepared to provide the necessary assistance.
