Israel cut off electricity in Gaza, Hamas reacts: We condemn the decision, it is political blackmail!

Hamas today denounced Israel's "unacceptable blackmail" by deciding to cut off electricity supplies to the Gaza Strip ahead of new negotiations to extend the ceasefire.
“ We categorically condemn (Israel’s) decision to cut off electricity to Gaza, after depriving it of food, medicine and water,” Izzat al-Rishk, a member of the Palestinian Islamic movement’s Political Bureau, said in a statement, denouncing “a petty and unacceptable policy of blackmail . ”
The only power line between Israel and Gaza feeds the main water desalination plant in this Palestinian territory, which provides water for more than 600,000 people.
Israel cut off the electricity line to the Gaza Strip today, Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen said in a statement to the media on Sunday (March 9).
"I just signed an order for the immediate shutdown of electricity in the Gaza Strip," Cohen said.
This development comes as brokered talks on the ceasefire and hostage deal are underway, while Hamas is demanding the "immediate" start of talks on the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, which Israel opposes.
Israel wants to extend the first phase of the deal to continue the hostage exchange – but without any commitment to a permanent end to the war.
Last week, Israel announced a blockade of all aid to the enclave to pressure Hamas into accepting new conditions for an extension of the current ceasefire agreement.
