Two days after the meeting that Prime Minister Edi Rama held with 20 mayors in Kuç, Vlora, where the new Territorial Reform was discussed and clarifications were sought on the future of local units, the mayor of Divjaka Municipality, Josif Gorrea, has also reacted, clarifying his position held during this meeting.

As we previously reported, Gorrea has supported his position and that of the residents of Divjaka against the merger of this municipality, opposing any scenario that would lead to a change in its status within the framework of the new territorial reform.

Recently, during the Divjaka Municipal Council meeting, the mayor provided clarifications on what was discussed at the meeting held in Kuç, confirming once again that his position on preserving the Divjaka Municipality has been clear and has not changed.

"It was a closed meeting. It was discussed at length as a political group, which I call a big step forward. We each expressed our opinion. The Prime Minister of the country left the conversation open. Everyone expressed their pure opinion. Some excited and hasty mayors interrupted his speech, as if it had happened here too.

I am speaking clearly about what happened. Even in that meeting, I had no obligation to speak for others, but for myself. My position has been clear. It has not changed at any point from what I have stated. Even in that meeting, I strongly defended the idea that the municipality should remain. First of all, there are some inconsistencies in the Maznik Commission.

I caught some mistakes that I will let you know. Second, I made a comparison between Lushnje and Divjaka. Perhaps the Commission in that quote refers to the fact that we held a meeting that we were present at.

"In that meeting, again, you may have seen it in the media, senior representatives of the Socialist Party clearly stated that there will be no changes in the Fier region. I strongly defended the fact that I was not informed. I reiterated what I said above," Gorrea said, among other things.

As we have previously reported, not everything went smoothly at the four-hour meeting between Prime Minister Edi Rama and 20 mayors, which was held in Kuç, Vlora. Behind closed doors, discussions on the new territorial map were much more tense than previously reported after the meeting ended.

For about four hours, Prime Minister Rama and the leftist mayors discussed the reform that is expected to bring about the merger of several municipalities, while in some cases the debate turned into strong clashes.

One of the most tense moments was the clash between the mayor of Poliçan, Adriatik Zotkaj, and Prime Minister Rama. Zotkaj, who has previously spoken out against the merger of the municipality he heads, defended the position that changing the map would lead to the removal of services from citizens. The debate between them escalated, to the point that Zotkaj left the meeting.

However, this clash was the only one in that hall, as the discussion with the mayor of Dimal, Juliana Memaj, was also accompanied by tensions.

"You great leaders!", Rama is said to have been addressed, while Mema responded by saying: "What a black leader! We have become like municipal workers."

Apparently, this term used by the mayor's office to indicate the lack of competence of the local government angered the prime minister, who asked the mayor to leave the meeting.
