Trade cooperation, exports to Kosovo increase by 91.6% in January

Exports to Kosovo increased by 91.6% in January of this year, compared to January 2024.

According to data published by the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT), exports in value during the first month of the year are estimated at 5515 million lek, while in the same period of 2024 they were 2879 million lek.

Meanwhile, imports have also increased.

From 712 million lek in January 2024, in January 2025 they reached 884 million lek.

Albania's main exports to Kosovo are represented by the export of construction materials and metals, minerals and fuels, food, as well as chemical and plastic products.

Domestic wood/carpentry products such as chairs and armchairs or other furniture appear important in the export structure. Agricultural products also have a significant role.

During this period, according to data, Albania has exported around 4377 million lek of electricity, minerals and fuels to Kosovo, out of 886 million lek exported in January 2024.

Meanwhile, exports of construction materials and metals fell by 5.8 times. Of the 1048 million lek that were exported in January 2024, only 180 million lek were exported in January of this year.

As of October 1, 2022, customs clearance of all goods destined for Kosovo is being carried out at Durrës customs.

There are over 1,000 businesses from Kosovo that currently benefit from the opening of this branch, not only in terms of time, but also in reduced customs clearance costs.

Meanwhile, the authorities have announced that the Pristina Dry Port will also be built in Kosovo, an inland terminal directly connected by road to the Porto Romano seaport, Durres, which will function as a hub for transporting sea cargo to domestic destinations. The Pristina Dry Port, agreed with the Albanian government, is planned to be built near the capital, in Fushë-Kosovo.

The distance from Porto Romano is about 265 kilometers, while work is also underway to connect with a modern railway in between.
