Albanian salaries increased by about 8 thousand lekë/ In the fourth quarter of last year, the private sector drove growth

Official data published by INSTAT show that the average gross monthly salary for a salaried employee, during the last quarter of 2024, reached 83,401 lek lek or 11.2% higher than in the same period of 2023. Meanwhile, throughout 2024 the average salary can be estimated at close to 77,450 lek. The increase in salaries in the last quarter may also be influenced by year-end bonuses or rewards.
If we analyze salaries by sector, it results that the average monthly salary for a salaried employee in the state sector was 100,437 lek, while the average monthly salary for a salaried employee in the private sector was 76 thousand lek.
Compared to the same period a year ago, salaries in the state increased by 14.3%, while in the private sector, employee salaries increased by 9.5% during the year. Despite the fact that the increase in salaries in the private sector was also driven by the lack of labor, we see that the increase in salaries in the state has a significant gap. However, compared to the third quarter, the private sector drove the growth.
During the last quarter of 2024, the economic activities that provide an average gross monthly salary higher than the national average salary are "Financial and Insurance Activities" and "Information and Communication".
Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, during the fourth quarter of 2024, the average gross salary for the activity group “Construction” has the highest increase of 14.9%, followed by “Public administration and defense; compulsory social security; education; health and social work activities”, with 14.7%. Meanwhile, on the other hand, the lowest increase was recorded in information and communication.
On the other hand, if we analyze the average gross monthly salary figures by economic occupation group, it results that the occupation groups of "Managers, Legislators, Senior State Administration Officials and Executive Directors" and "Specialists with Higher Education (Professionals)" offer the highest average gross monthly salaries, compared to the average salary at the national level.
Specifically, managers have an average gross salary of 130,859 lek per month. Next are specialists with higher education who receive a gross salary of around 111 thousand lek per month./ SCAN
