How to recognize meningitis? Doctor: Watch for temperature and spots on the skin

The head of the infectious pediatrics service, Professor Xhorxhina Kuli, explained that the situation with meningitis is not alarming, as there have always been cases of meningitis.

It mainly appears after a child or young person has had a viral condition.

" I would say that we have had meningitis and we will have it, the fastest, the one that doesn't give you time to make decisions, is meningococcal meningitis. It usually appears after viruses. Meningococcus is found everywhere in nature, we can't avoid it and it is everywhere. The problem is that when you have intact mucous membranes, you can come into contact with it and the body itself creates a barrier that doesn't allow it to pass into the bloodstream or the brain. In the moments when these mucous membranes are broken, when a flu passes, signs of meningitis can appear ," explains the doctor.

According to Prof. Kulit, mothers should be very careful to recognize the first signs.

" If we diagnose it early, the survival rate is 100%, if it is 12-24 hours, the course of the disease is questionable. Parents should be vigilant if they see a child's temperature and should especially be mindful if they see spots on the skin ," says Kuli.

Alarmed by the two cases in Durrës, which were identified within a short period of time, parents have started ordering vaccines in neighboring countries. But, according to Kulit, there is no emergency, except in cases where the child has blood problems, is undergoing chemotherapy or has a compromised immune system.

Prof. Kuli advises parents to be careful, as providing it on private roads requires special conditions./ Top Channel
