“Travel Awaits”: Albania among the best places for a unique European getaway

The Balkans include several countries in the southeastern region of Europe. Of these countries, you have probably visited the most well-known country: Greece, writes Tay Belgeri in an article published in the American magazine “ Travel Awaits ”.
The same can be said for Croatia, which joined the European Union in 2013 – and has since become one of Europe's most luxurious coastal destinations.
What about the other Balkan countries? I'm talking about Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia.
They are definitely under my radar, and not just as summer destinations.
These countries are also making tourist infrastructure available along their coastlines.
If you are visiting the Balkans for the first time, this region is known for its beauty, delicious food, welcoming culture (hospitality is very important in Balkan culture), and absolutely gorgeous coastlines.
While Mediterranean hotspots like Italy, Greece, and Croatia are becoming increasingly overcrowded and expensive – the beaches of the Balkans offer an escape unlike your usual vacation.
Let's focus on countries with coastlines.
I'm excluding Croatia for now; you've probably heard enough about its coastline over the last decade.
The three Balkan countries we recommend for a unique European getaway are: Albania, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Known for its affordable prices, ancient history, and rugged, wild coastlines, it's hard not to be drawn to Albania.
We suggest you visit these beaches:
Grama Bay : This famous bay is accessible only by boat, which shelters you in a cove in the heart of the Albanian Riviera.
Just make sure to plan transportation to and from Grama Bay in advance – as you’ll need a lifeboat.
Saranda : Along with an unspoiled stretch of coastline – this city also includes activities like castle tours, cobblestone streets, and wildlife tours.
Dhërmi : Immerse yourself in the wonders of the Ionian Sea while lounging on the golden sands of Dhërmi beach.
Warning : During peak season, this coastal area is more populated with tourists – but that can be a plus if you like lively nightlife and lots of #vibes.
