The European Union welcomes the elections in Kosovo: The process is calm and orderly

The European Union has welcomed the fact that the parliamentary elections in Kosovo were held in a peaceful atmosphere, in which citizens had the opportunity to express their will.
This was said by the EU spokesperson for foreign policy and security, Anitta Hipper, when answering questions regarding the bloc's reaction to the elections in Kosovo and expectations after they are held.
Hipper said that an EU election observation mission has been deployed in Kosovo, which was formed by the decision of the head of diplomacy, Kaja Kallas.
The decision to send this mission to observe the elections in Kosovo was cited by Hipper as evidence that the EU sees relations with Kosovo as very important.
In addition to EU observers, the elections were also monitored by domestic observers, who said they passed without serious incidents, but with some irregularities.
According to preliminary results published by the Central Election Commission, Albin Kurti's Vetëvendosje Movement is leading with 40.96 percent or 316,016 votes won in the February 9 parliamentary elections.
The second party is the Democratic Party of Kosovo with 22.42 percent or 172,953 votes, followed by the Democratic League of Kosovo with 17.62 percent or 135,976 votes won.
The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo coalition, Initiative, Conservatives and Intellectuals won 7.56 percent or 58,307 votes.
Meanwhile, the Serbian List – the main party of Kosovo Serbs that enjoys the support of official Belgrade – won 3.95 percent or 30,440 votes.
The February 9 elections were the first regular elections that Kosovo has held since declaring independence.
The turnout was 40.59 percent of over 1.9 million eligible voters in Kosovo. Previously, the diaspora also voted for these elections, through the mail, but also physically at several Kosovo diplomatic missions around the world.
There were 28 political entities and one independent candidate in the race for the new 120-seat composition of the Kosovo Assembly, an institution that will then elect the new executive./ REL
