"Don't release Erion Veliaj"/Protest in front of the Supreme

While members of the Supreme Court are in the deliberation room to make a decision regarding the appeal made by the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, against the security measure 'prison arrest', outside citizens are protesting against his release.

 'Judge, do justice, leave Veliaj in prison,' the protesters chant.

One of them argues why Veliaj should remain in prison, adding that his release would be a major blow to the justice system in Albania.

"Veliaj has been that model of politician that we have opposed from the beginning. He has been that model of politician who, by dragging himself along and never facing either the opposing candidates or the citizens, has reached where we have all seen him.

But if we want a fact about Erion Veliaj that he should continue to stay in prison, it is simply to take a tour around Tirana and we must understand that all this money laundering was done with the blessing and under the nose of Veliaj.

Even so, for me and for every citizen, the constructions in Tirana alone are a sufficient reason for him to continue to stay in prison. And of course, the wiretaps, and the evidence that has come out in relation to Veliaj, are sufficient reasons and arguments that he should stay in prison. Even an exit of Veliaj today would be a major blow to the justice system in Albania, because it would violate its independence."
