Enkelejd Alibeaj says that the arrest of Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj is the fruit of the independence of the justice system.
In his interview for the "Log" show on News 24 with moderator Endri Xhafon, Alibeaj said that Veliaj's arrest has nothing to do with the changes in Washington, that is, with the new administration of President Trump.
Alibeaj: I dedicate this to the BKH investigators, SPAK prosecutors and court judges. Zero changes in Washington. I modestly know the justice and judicial system and judges well. They don't want to care at all about political changes thousands or hundreds of kilometers away. I reject this Balkan story that we have the idea of politicizing any kind of activity, even of the justice system.
Protests with paid bribes from the municipality and the government, identical to the strongholds that the opposition used to build. They have the same behavior towards the same judges and the conclusion is simple, they are enforcing the law.
Why do we find it difficult that this fragile justice system has chosen to take refuge under the law? For me, what has happened is simply and solely the fruit of the independence and professionalism of the justice system.
