Cooperation with the DP, Shehaj: They did not vote for me to sit with the old

"They didn't vote for me to sit with the old parties ," said the leader of the  Mundësia  party , Agron Shehaj, this evening, while he was invited to the " Opinion " show on  TV Klan .

The topic of discussion this evening was " Will the opposition unite ?" and when asked by journalist Blendi Fevziu about his stance on cooperation with other opposition parties, Shehaj said that this is not enough to oust Prime Minister Edi Rama from the government.

According to Shehaj, the idea that opposition unity is a " magic key " to solving Albania's problems is wrong. He even recalled that such collaborations have been tried before, without bringing real change for citizens.

The leader of the  Mundësia  party said that the main problem is the lack of a credible political alternative that addresses the concrete concerns of citizens, such as the issue of property, economic development, education and healthcare. According to him, citizens are not only interested in who leaves power, but also what the opposition offers in its place.

Blendi FevziuLook, you were more skeptical on Monday, where are you with today's position?

Agron ShehajI was actually for no, not skeptical. Now we are talking about unification as if unification were the magic key to every problem Albania has.

Blendi FevziuNo, we are not talking about unity, opposition cooperation, because the word unity is too big ...

Agron ShehajCooperation, because we have lacked cooperation and this is the big problem of Albanians and this is the reason why Edi Rama is in power and we are in opposition. Now cooperation, unity in one goal. The goal in essence of unity is to get Rama out. This is it. Rama is a corrupt prime minister and he should get out as soon as possible, but we have had such collaborations without end.

Blendi FevziuShould Rama leave or should the Socialist Party leave?

Agron ShehajNow a second, when we say Rama should go, we mean the Socialist Party should go, this majority should go. But for 34 years we have always had this, once Berisha should go, Nano should go, then Berisha should go again, now Rama should go. The problem is that we have to go beyond this. We have to talk about the alternative, it is the alternative that we need.

Who listens to us at home says, hey, what are these people talking about?! For unity, Rama should leave, someone else should come. The one who listens to us has a problem with the property and will know, Rama did not give him the property, he took it and gave it to an oligarch, and will know, what plan do these people who want to come have for the property, will they give it back to me or not?! How trustworthy are they, that they will come to shake Rama and overthrow him?! The same goes for that young man in Theth who Rama did not give him the property, who Rama did not give him the building permit to build a small bar to live with tourists, and he ruined it.

The same goes for healthcare, for education, we need to talk about an alternative, a credible alternative and only in this way do we gain the trust of citizens. Now we need to look... we have had elections, because here we are giving advice, giving opinions. We need to look at the facts. In the last elections in 2025, the old or traditional parties lost 1/3 of the votes, they went from 750 thousand votes to 500 thousand votes. They lost 250 thousand votes. Did they realize or not that they have a credibility problem?!

For the first time, new parties have received almost 150 thousand votes. Albanian citizens are tired of the old parties, they told them 100 thousand times, change, renew, reform because we cannot continue like this, and they embraced another political party, the new parties.

And the new parties were not voted to sit with the old parties. They voted for them because they believed that they were the change. And we, as a new party, cannot be told 'now let's sit'. Because we were not voted to sit with the traditional parties, because otherwise the traditional parties would vote, they would not vote for us. We must talk about the alternative, we must gain the trust of the citizens. How did Rama leave? Rama did not leave with unity, unity is not enough. For Rama to leave, we must gain the trust of the citizens and as long as we do not gain the trust of the citizens, Rama will not leave.
