"Territorial Reform has many interests" - Krasniqi: The situation in

Political scientist Afrim Krasniqi, invited to the "Off the Record" studio by Andrea Danglli, on A2CNN, stated that the Territorial Reform has many interests, "not only political, but also of MPs in certain areas."

"Territorial Reform has many interests. There are interests not only political, but also of MPs in certain areas, which go beyond the party. There are also interests of large business groups, there are local interests of municipalities, there are interests of large companies in Albania, there are interests of other countries... and these interests require a mandatory comprehensive process. There must be a public debate on Territorial Reform. Every municipality and every citizen must know where their services will be, every investor must know what the territorial division of Albania will be for the next two decades. This is not a process that happens in the Commission, a working system must be created that enables all groups in society to participate and has a mechanism that also includes international actors. So far, we have lacked this strategy ," said Krasniqi.

Regarding the Parliament, Krasniqi said: "I am concerned about what is happening there. The Parliament is in a situation like in 1997, where a party has unnecessary numbers in the Parliament, it can vote for anything. Our Parliament is not simply acting as a notary of the government, but is acting as a structure that has given up its role and this is the biggest concern. What is the point of half of the sessions ending after midnight, when no one is interested in attending them. In a democracy, you have to offer citizens a mechanism by which you can be monitored and controlled. Parliament has this duty and we only ask that they make decisions transparent."
