Albanian prisoner injured with knife in Greece

A bloody attack occurred this afternoon at Malandrina prison in Greece, where an Albanian citizen, described by the authorities as one of the most dangerous executioners in the underworld, was stabbed.

It is learned that the injured man is Dhimitër Meci, 46 years old, from Labova, Gjirokastra.

According to Greek media reports , the attack occurred immediately after his transfer to Malandrina prison. Before he had even reached the section where he would be accommodated, he was stabbed with a homemade knife by another inmate.

Known by the nickname "Demos", Meci is known as one of the "strongest weapons" of the criminal world in Athens and has been described as the mastermind behind the assassination attempt on Giannis Lalas in May 2025, when the latter was shot dozens of times with a Kalashnikov, but survived thanks to the armor of the luxury vehicle he was driving.

After his arrest, the Albanian was held in the psychiatric ward of Korydallos prison, where he underwent forensic examinations.

He was seriously injured in today's attack, but sources indicate that his life is not in danger.

The perpetrator of the attack was immediately arrested. He has been identified as NE, a Greek citizen, accused of participating in a criminal organization and employed in the prison canteen.

According to Greek authorities, the Albanian has been in the hands of justice dozens of times for contract killings, attempted murders, blackmail and robbery. He also had close ties to Panagiotis Vlastos, considered one of the leaders of the so-called "Greek Mafia".
